Speaker 1:

Hello, good morning, happy Saturday.

Speaker 2:

Good morning one and all. It's a beautiful day, the coffee's good, the women are beautiful. The women, I mean the women.

Speaker 1:

Well, what's happening? Oh?

Speaker 2:

it's another day in paradise. We're lounging around on a Saturday morning drinking coffee. We haven't gotten into politics yet, which is a good thing. Yeah, kind of I think that that's helpful to our sanity and to yeah just uh sometimes you just got to get away from it all.

Speaker 1:

Get back to reality in your life, you know what I'm saying and appreciate the small little real life stuff that's happening. Not pay attention to the pundits on TV or anything like that, because they are out of touch with everything. They're trying to feed you what they want you to feel and understand Absolutely. So just get on, get back to your real life, but listen to us though.

Speaker 2:

Speaking of which? Speaking of which? Yes, nice segue, carol.

Speaker 1:

Thank you.

Speaker 2:

We went to a high school football game last night.

Speaker 1:

Sure did.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we did. We went to the West Portsmouth Senators football game last night.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

And they played a team from Chillicothe, yep. If you don't know where that is, that is South Ohio, somewhere right on the river.

Speaker 1:

Down by the river.

Speaker 2:

And it was a great experience. I'll tell you what I was thoroughly impressed with every aspect of it.

Speaker 1:

So why did we go? Why are we here?

Speaker 2:

For your 15th anniversary, 39th, 39th High schoolth 39th.

Speaker 1:

High school reunion 39th.

Speaker 2:

Yes, see, that's what threw me off when they announced the class of 1985. I was like, wait a minute. Carol graduated in 1984. This is her 40th. No, why are they having a 39th? Yeah, what is that?

Speaker 1:

I graduated in 1985, not 84.

Speaker 2:

So now we're going to go right away from what we were talking about to why do they have a 39th?

Speaker 1:

Get back to the football game. So we're here for my high school reunion. We also have family.

Speaker 2:

I have family here too. I'm confused now, but the football game you know I started thinking about. I played football in high school, so I don't I, I and I played at the stadium that when I was a younger kid, going to watch the older guys that played, and they were my heroes. The stadium we went to, you know, was, uh, just beat up, old rickety. It was pretty big but it was.

Speaker 2:

You know, the facilities were just ugly. You know you had a little trailer that was the concession stand that maybe gave you a yeah, it's maybe some candy, candy bars and some stale popcorn and a, you know, a fountain drink, but all you could get concession wise. Um, you know you had to walk dark streets from a parking lot shopping center parking lot to get to the thing I remember our high school, our high school athletic was down the bottom of a building that was built in 1898, and it was just, you know, pretty bad and disgusting. But then we went to this Portsmouth game last night and the facilities, you know they had beautiful locker room facilities for the opposing team and beautiful facilities for the home team. You know you could get any concession you wanted as far as food goes and they had two beautiful concession areas, never aligned but always busy, and the facilities were immaculate. They were great.

Speaker 2:

The field was a, you know it wasn't grass, it was a natural grass turf of some type which was just, you know, beautiful and it was just done right. I was super, super, super impressed. And it's a small school, it's not a big school at all, very small school. So it just gets me. You know, I've always gone, gone and you've heard me say this before. You know, professional athletes and professional franchises are going to be professional, they're going to have top notch whatever that back in my day I'll call it. The facilities that are colleges are as good as the professionals are now. The facilities at the high schools are definitely collegiate levels nowadays and everything is just so far advanced and nicer and greater than it was, you know that, many years ago.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I wouldn't call this high school collegiate.

Speaker 2:

No, wouldn't call it collegiate.

Speaker 2:

But, if you go look at the facilities and their weight rooms and all that, they would definitely match up to Division III schools of 40 years ago. They would absolutely match them, if not surpass them. So if you go now, if you go look at let's go to some of the high schools in Dallas, texas or in Arizona or in California or some of the programs in Georgia, you look at these programs or some of the ones actually in Alabama. You go look at these programs or some of the ones actually in Alabama. You go look at these and you go, okay, this is a college-level facility, without a doubt. You know some of the ones in Dallas. You know they built their stadiums on campus that hold 60,000 people for high school and they're filling them.

Speaker 2:

So, yeah, that level is gone. So this level is not going to be a university of uh, I'm sorry it's not going to be the Ohio state university or Alabama or Georgia, but the level which they've gone from 40 years ago to now is just incredible. But the whole experience last night of going to that game was parking was great, the bands were very good, it was just fun to watch. It was a good experience. I really enjoyed it.

Speaker 1:

Well, good, and we won.

Speaker 2:

And the game, barely the game was a great game. No, no, it was a great comeback.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was Absolutely. We were down going into the half, came out afterwards. It was like a different team.

Speaker 2:

Down 17-7 at one point. Kicked a field goal late in the quarter In the first half to go down 17-10. And then scored eight points in the second half, shut out the other team and won 18-17.

Speaker 1:

I know it was great. It was a great game, loved it.

Speaker 2:

It was a great game and they announced our class.

Speaker 1:

We met up with some other classmates and we sat together and the announcer announced us as the most winningest season ever Absolutely, and we won a bunch of stuff in 1985.

Speaker 2:

Yep.

Speaker 1:

We were dominant.

Speaker 2:

Nine and one Lost the last game of the year.

Speaker 1:

And it wasn't just football either. Our competition band won a bunch of trophies. Our golf team won. I didn't even know we had a golf team. Quite frankly, I was not real present in high school.

Speaker 2:

But you were a cutie. I don't know about that. Yeah, you were. I love your picture and your thing. You look so and, like you said, you thanked your grandmother for this, but your picture looks so much more sophisticated than all the rest of the kids, because I had short hair. No, it's just the clothes you were wearing and all that. You just looked so much more sophisticated. You look great. But yeah, I did. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great.

Speaker 1:

So the reunion is tonight. I look forward to that. It'll be fun. Now we're going to have breakfast here in a little bit and then go have coffee with my sister and catch up on a bunch of stuff, and then tomorrow we're going to go. Her girls are coming and all in a time we're going to go eat. So it'll be fun. Yeah, absolutely Looking forward to it. The drive wasn't terrible.

Speaker 2:

No, the drive was good. It was good we got through Nashville before the traffic got bad. Yeah, that was a good thing. That was a good thing. So we're just going to lay here around here and eat some breakfast and see what the day does.

Speaker 1:

Yep, that's it yeah absolutely Nice and relaxing.

Speaker 2:

You got anything else.

Speaker 1:

Not really.

Speaker 2:

Really no. Usually you're on time. Oh, I will say this. You know, we got back last night from watching the game. We're tired and we want a little snack. We always bring some stuff up to the room. Whenever I'm on a trip, I always get trail mix and I've got this little hankering for the crunchy donuts, the ones with the coconut on them. Now we've been married for going on like a year and a half.

Speaker 1:

A little bit longer.

Speaker 2:

A little bit longer, like 16 or 17, 16 years 16 years, something like that. Yeah, like 16 or 17, 16 years, 16 years, something like that. Yeah, and on these trips, I'll always get these crunchy donuts.

Speaker 1:

Because he knows I don't like them and I won't touch them.

Speaker 2:

She won't touch them. But last night she wanted something sweet, wanted me to go down, get dressed, go down to the store, down at the hotel and get something. But I said you know my usual thing, like I want to stop at Starbucks, ah, they're closed. You know I always pull that line. Now they're closed. Ah, they're too busy. Whatever, you know, just for fun. So I said, ah, they're closed. I said listen, why don't you try one of those donuts? They're sweet and yeah, I think you'll like them. And she went over there and she turned her nose up and put her nose in the bag and smelled them. She goes these are ones with coconut on them. I said, yeah, but they're good. I said but you've got to eat it, right, you know? So she came over and gave me one. I shoved the whole thing in my mouth and she looked at me and did you take a bite? I just took a bite, you took a bite.

Speaker 1:

And I thought I'd have to spit it out and she started eating it and she went uh-oh.

Speaker 2:

And I knew what uh-oh meant. Uh-oh meant I like these and I was like, oh no, I'm going to have to sleep with them under my pillow because I don't want to wake up in the morning and all of them be gone. That's right.

Speaker 1:

You have nothing sacred anymore. You can't even have donuts anymore now, by yourself.

Speaker 2:

One of the things that I always say to Carol is, after you know, she's poo-pooed on me for some reason and then she tries something and it's like, oh, like that, or something, I look at her and go one day, carol, one day, that means one day you'll listen to me, yeah, I know. So my favorite line not my favorite, but one of the lines I'll use is one day, carol, one day.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, one day.

Speaker 2:

So, anyway, I now know she likes crunch donuts and I'm going to have to figure out something else.

Speaker 1:

All right, do you have a question of the day? All right, the gent has the question of the day.

Speaker 2:

Okay, if you travel a lot and you know you get out and you get to your hotel room and you don't want to go out and get a little hungry and you need a snack or something pre-planning, what snack do you bring up to your room, just in case you get the munchies and you want to have something to eat at night? What's your favorite go-to travel snack?

Speaker 1:

And you usually get the crunch donuts and the trail mix.

Speaker 2:

Crunch donuts and trail mix exactly.

Speaker 1:

I'll get some kind of potato, something salty.

Speaker 2:

Well, see, the reason I get those is because you know it's part sweet, part salt and then part cake, and you know it kind of covers, you know, and we do have some apples too, so we do have some fruit, okay, so that's what we do.

Speaker 1:

All right.

Speaker 2:

What's your favorite?

Speaker 1:

Thanks for listening.

Speaker 2:

Y'all have a great day. Go Dawgs.
