Navigating Ethical Dilemmas in High-Profile Court Cases: Daniel Penny's Trial and The Onion's Bid for InfoWars
Is it possible to prevent harm without causing it? We navigate the intense courtroom drama surrounding Marine veteran Daniel Penny, accused of manslaughter in the tragic death of Jordan Neely. By dissecting Penny's recorded interrogation, where he asserts his intent was never fatal, we examine the wider societal and ethical implications of self-defense. This trial has ignited public discourse, and we share our thoughts on the proceedings, the role of military training in civilian life, and what this case might mean for future legal defenses.
Meanwhile, the saga of Alex Jones and InfoWars takes a surreal turn as the satirical news site The Onion bids to take over his controversial platform. With legal battles looming and transparency under the microscope, we question what this potential sale means for free speech and accountability. The staggering defamation judgment against Jones fuels a broader conversation about justice and reparation, leaving us to ponder if financial penalties can truly rectify moral wrongs. Join us for a session full of heated debates and unexpected twists, where we strive to untangle the complexities of these high-profile stories.

Good morning, good morning, good morning. All right, it's Friday. Hey, yay, it was a short week for me. I didn't really come to work until Wednesday, so very short week for me. Tomorrow will I mean tomorrow. Next week will probably seem like it's forever.
Speaker 1:All right, we need to get to our topics. We have three topics today over here. One of them is about Alex Jones, the other one is about a chocolate and the other one we're going to start with right here is Daniel Penny. You know he's on trial and let's see Daniel Penny interrogation video reveals him telling detectives I'm not trying to kill the guy, hours after Jordan Neely's chokehold death. This is from the New York Post. Of course, I get all my stories mainly from New York Post.
Speaker 1:Let's see, daniel Penny appeared unaware that his chokehold on Jordan Neely had killed the homeless man and tried to downplay the maneuver hours later, insisting he wasn't trying to kill the guy. It was revealed in court Thursday. I don't know. I keep meaning to check to see if this trial is live on YouTube, because I sure would like to watch it. I've been meaning, I keep meaning to check and I forget. I get, you know, start watching Glenn Beck and all that, and I forget about it. All right, let's see. I wasn't trying to injure him. I'm just trying to keep him from hurting anybody else.
Speaker 1:The Marine veteran, 26, told two detectives during a videotaped interrogation shown to jurors man. I hope they find him not guilty or innocent or acquit, whatever they call it, I don't know. The guy does not need to go to prison. Come on, that's what we are taught in the Marine Corps. Penny added, referring to protecting others in the footage played during the third week of his lightning rod manslaughter trial. What does that mean? Lightning rod manslaughter trial in Manhattan Supreme Court? I hate Alvin Bragg. Detective Brian McCarthy testified that he did not tell Penny that Neely had died during the interrogation, though video of the subway car shows that penny witnessed police officers trying to revive a lifeless kneeling minutes after the chokehold ended.
Speaker 1:Now remember, it's also being reported that when the paramedics got their emt whatever you call them they did fight. They did have a pulse on the guy, so he wasn't dead yet. I don't know. You can go finish reading that story. It's very fascinating. Again, I would like to know if it's on. You know they cover these trials sometimes on live on YouTube, court TV or whatever. I need to go see if it's live. I don't know that it is. I think it would be all over the news if it was All right podcast.
Speaker 1:All right InfoWars sale to the Onion could be held up in court. As Alex Jones rants, his site's been hijacked Again. From the New York Post I saw a tweet from Pat Unleashed last night talking about this. They were trying to get Alex Jones on the show to talk about this. Now I really didn't know of Alex Jones until a couple of years ago. I've heard of him through Pat Gray. They would play his audio clips of the crying and the children and the frogs and it just cracked me up. I didn't know who he was. I'd heard of InfoWars but I always thought of InfoWars as like some off-the-wall, not-to-take-it-seriously kind of weird thing. You know, but you know, we'll see. And of course, alex Jones got sued by the Sandy Hook parents, like that is gonna do anything for them. Bless I. Just, it makes me mad.
Speaker 1:The sale of InfoWars, alex Jones's right-wing conspiracy site to the Onion, could be held up in court after a judge questioned the transparency of the auction process. On Thursday, the Satorical News site placed the winning bid for the site at a bankruptcy auction in an offer backed by families of the Sandy Hook shooting who are owed more than $1 billion from Jones in a defamation judgment. All right, if they want to do defamation, fine, but one billion dollars, come on, you are ridiculous. That is not going to do anything for you, it's not. It's not going to bring your children back. I'm sorry, but the judge in Jones's bankruptcy case said he had misgivings about how the auction was held at an emergency hearing in Houston later in the day and ordered an evidentiary hearing to sort out whether the auction was fair sometime next week.
Speaker 1:What does this mean? What do you mean? It's not fair. I don't understand what's going on. We're all going to an evidentiary hearing and I'm going to figure out exactly what happened. Judge Christopher Lopez said no one should feel comfortable with the result of this auction. He did not immediately set a date for the hearing. The only other bidder, first United American Companies, which runs shopalexjonescom, complained that the bidding method was switched from an open process toa silent auction in which rivals bids weren't disclosed to other potential buyers at the last minute. The onions parent company, global tetrahedron, has not disclosed what its winning offer was, but the trustee who ran the auction said the dollar figure it offered was less than first americans 3.5 million bid, but a better deal.
Speaker 1:All right, you can go finish reading that there. I'm sure there's more to it. I haven't been really been following it all that much. All right. The last podcast topic here is this lint makes a bombshell admission about its expertly crafted chocolate amid a lawsuit. I think I should have gotten in on this and you're going to find out why. I love dark chocolate first of all, and I've and I've had Lindt chocolate. L-i-n-d-t Lindt makes. I've had their chocolate. It was not so sweet confession. It was a not so sweet confession. This is how this article starts. You guys have got to start. Stop doing this. All right, stop trying to be all cutesy with your entrance.
Speaker 1:Lent, a gourmet chocolate brand, said its delectable goodies are not expertly crafted with the finest ingredients, as the packaging suggests. The Swiss company confessed in an attempt to get a lawsuit against it dismissed, but it backfired when Eastern District of New York Court denied the effort. Lent found itself in a sticky situation in 2023 after a US consumer organization reported alleged I have eaten these Lent dark chocolate bars. I love dark chocolate. I know I'm probably a freak, but I do love it. Consumer Reports discovered the revelation when it compared 28 chocolate bars sold in America, and it's going to get here. Customers from California, alabama I know every time you say Alabama like that, you think of Forrest Gump, don't you?
Speaker 1:Florida, illinois, nevada and New York have taken legal action against the Swiss company regarding the high amounts of lead they've consumed. How do I get in on this action and how do I prove that I ate lint chocolate? I have no receipts from years ago from that. It's been a while so, oh, and I've. So, yeah, that's crazy. Not knowing, not knowing is very dangerous. This is why it is important to know what you're eating and to have quantified data on the cleanliness of the positive benefits. Brian Johnson, 46, a biohacker, told the daily mail. So, yeah, I guess we got kennedy rfkj coming in to fix it all, though.
Speaker 1:Wow, you can go finish reading that story, for, like, I need to get to the question of the day. But before we get to the question of the day, um, I'm gonna have some exciting news. I'm trying to hold back and try to save it for next week. Why I'm saving it for next week, I have no idea. I should probably just go ahead and tell you, but I kind of want to hold it off. I don't know. I might as well tell you. Should I tell you? I'm just going to go ahead and tell you.
Speaker 1:Okay, so I have my anniversary coming up for this podcast. Five years will be December 8th of this year. December 8th will mark this podcast being five years and it is time to move on to something new. So I'm going to end this podcast on December 8th, which is a Sunday. I will end it with the Gent and we are going to move we I say we, me. I am moving on to do a new podcast Maybe I'll save that surprise for later.
Speaker 1:I'm gonna and it'll be a weekly podcast. It will not be a daily podcast. I've already been working on it. I've already I'm getting it ready, so, and I'm really excited about it, and it's a specific topic. It's not like random stuff and it's going to be a little bit more researched, a little bit more polished.
Speaker 1:I don't know if my regular readers will like it. They might, they might not, because of the topic. It's it's not news. It'll be newsy, but it'll. It's not news, it'll be newsy, but you'll have to find out next week what it's about. I think you'll like it. I hope you will. Again, it'll be a weekly one and a little bit more polished, a little bit more researched. I hope It'll still be fun. I'll still make it kind of fun and everything. It'll still have my style on it, but we'll see.
Speaker 1:I'm excited about it though. I feel good about it. I feel good about this decision. All right. Question Now please keep listening, though, until December 8th. Please keep sharing, because I'll still archive this podcast so people will still. It'll still be searchable, so people can still find it and listen to it. So please keep you know, listening until December 8th and sharing my content, please. You can go ahead if you want to announce it that it'll be ending, whatever, since I've announced it on the podcast, but you'll have to stay tuned to find out what the new thing is. All right, question of the day. Oh, the gent and I are going to watch a movie tonight and I want it like a Thanksgiving-themed movie. What do you suggest we watch tonight? What is your? That's the question of the day. What is your favorite Thanksgiving-themed movie? And it cannot be vacation movie, because we've seen them a gazillion times. I want something different. Okay, I gotta go. Thanks for listening y'all. Bye.
