TALK TO ME, TEXT IT

Travel back in time with us as we revisit the classic James Bond films, a journey that unfolds the transformation of cinema's most iconic spy. Reflecting on a personal tradition, I share how the gent and I dedicated months to watching every Bond movie in the order of their release, allowing us to witness the evolution of 007. If you've been caught in the relentless whirl of daily news, consider this timeless cinematic adventure a perfect escape. Each film not only stands on its own but also as a testament to the changing face of espionage on the silver screen.

We also dive into the chaotic world behind the scenes, as Daniel Craig candidly discusses the unprecedented challenges he faced during the filming of "Quantum of Solace." With the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike echoing through the production, Craig's personal recollections reveal a film made amidst a scriptless storm. His insights offer a rare glimpse into the unpredictability of movie-making and his own aspirations beyond Bond, including a potential leap into the realm of superheroes. Whether you're a devoted Bond aficionado or a film buff seeking fascinating industry tales, this episode promises an intriguing blend of nostalgia and revelation.

Speaker 1:

Hello, good morning, happy Tuesday. Ooh, the still the last week of this podcast. Now, I will keep it archived, so it will still be accessible, but I will not be putting out any new daily content. There might be an occasion where I might put something out here and there, but no more daily content for sure, and I'm going to miss it. But I think I have an alternative, because I am going to miss looking up stories in the morning and then driving to work and then parking in the parking lot and getting on my voice memo app and sharing them with you. So what I think I'll do is I'll still find something and then I'll record it directly onto X and it'll be a lot shorter, just be a few minutes. I don't know, we'll see. We'll see what we'll see, but today's episode is not about the news, is not about politics, it's not about all of that stuff. It's going to be about James Bond, because you know, the gent and I we took a few months there to watch all of the james bond movies in the order that they were made, and I think this is the only series that actually. Well, because it's a different story every time. That's why. But you can see the evolve, the um, you can see james bond evolve. I guess is that the right term change and morph into the modern day man, the modern day spy, whatever. It's just really fun to watch. I highly suggest you take some time, carve out once a week if you want to. That's what we did. We did it on Friday night, sometimes also Saturday, but we just took our time and started from the very beginning and watched all of the James Bond movies and I loved it. I suggest you do it. Take some time off away from the news and go do that. It is awesome, all right. So we are moving on to the latest stories and what's happening with the James Bond.

Speaker 1:

But first Daniel Craig criticizes James Bond film as a nightmare with zero storytelling. Now he's talking about a particular movie, the Solace One, where the writers were on strike and he wrote some of it. It was crazy. So it's not what you think. It is all right. Daniel craig is known for playing british secret agent james bond in a handful of flicks released across the last two decades. Craig remembered how one film in particular oh gosh, a commercial came up. Go away, all right, uh, let's see. I want to try something here. Let's see if I can put it in Well. Anyway, we're going on. Craig remembered how one film in particular was a effing nightmare to put together as the industry succumbed to the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike.

Speaker 1:

The 56-year-old action star was riding a wave of success after receiving critical acclaim for his Bond debut in the 2006 hit Casino Royale. Remember that was a big, huge thing. The first time he came out as James Bond, people were kind of apprehensive because he was the new one. But he was the new one, but he was spectacular. All right, but the left critics and fans of much more questions than answers.

Speaker 1:

After the quantum of solace, which was released in 2008, this is the one he said was kind of nightmarish to do. If you read the whole article and it is a very long article he it's not as bombastic as you think. If effing nightmare Paul Haggis did a press on the script, then he went off and joined that picket line and we didn't have writers so we didn't have a script. He remembered we probably should never have gone and started the production, but we did. That's what he says. It's a pretty good, cool article. You should go read it. That's what he says. It's a pretty good, cool article. You should go read it. He did. Let's see, I wanted, I wanted, I wanted to be all of those people, but when I was actually acting it didn't enter my thoughts. I thought that was the last thing that would ever happen to me. He likened the idea of playing bond one day to portraying Batman and spider-man. But you can't play them all.

Speaker 1:

Craig said I think he'd wanted to go play like a superhero instead. In fact, when he was offered James Bond, he admired the whole franchise. He wanted to be Bond, but when he was offered it to him, he turned it down the first time because he was afraid that he wouldn't do it justice. So anyway, it's a good long story. I think you should go read it. It's wonderful. So he was thinking about when he was thinking about doing it.

Speaker 1:

He actually was in an event and he talked to one of the other Bond things. He was always making a pretty good living at the time. So if I'd spent my life doing what I was doing at the time, I would have been more than happy. But it really was one of those things where I mean to be a typecast as James Bond. Boo-hoo right. A chance meeting with a former Bond legend helped guide him toward his destiny. He said I sat next to Pierce Brosnan at an event and talked to him about it and he just went. Go for it, just go for it. Craig remembered he had nothing really else to say, which I took to heart, and I went for it. And yes, you did, daniel Craig, and a great job you did, and I hate to see you go. I hate to see it end for you. All right, but we have more news and I'm going to go over here to my notes, because this is where I saved everything.

Speaker 1:

Let's see the first story up here, the next James Bond Five actors who should play 007. All right, you ready for this? This is from yahoocom and it's opening, opening, opening. Here we go. Hollywood needs a new James Bond. This was, oh, by the way, this was written Sunday, december 1st 2024. Hollywood needs a new James Bond.

Speaker 1:

Ever since Daniel Craig's swan song in no Time to Kill, the search for the next 007 has been long, tireless and secretive. Of course, the Bond franchise needs a creative reset, which is why the pressure to choose the right actor to play Bond remains higher than it has ever been before. I agree, you've got to get the right guy has to be a British man. I'm sorry it does. I'm not sorry. Every name mentioned in reports or on the betting markets is just speculation. Remember this is written sunday. However, bond producers barbara broccoli and michael g wilson finally shared a clue as to what they're looking for in the next bond in a recent interview with the associated pressccoli revealed, the next 007 will be a man of any race and in his 30s. Also, the actor cast will be at least a decade worth of films.

Speaker 1:

Okay, these rules eliminate popular fan casting choices such as Tom Hardy, tom Hiddleston, idris Elba, richard Madden and Henry Cavill. I don't want no, henry Cavill. Even with those eliminations, that still leaves a giant pool of actors to choose from. And here are the five names that could follow Craig in the next Bond Of course, aaron Taylor Johnson. That is the number one name going all over the place on the internet and the rumor mill. I hate it that Idris Elba has been eliminated just because of his age. Tom Hiddleston and Tom Hardy too. So we got Aaron Taylor Johnson.

Speaker 1:

I'd never heard of him before, but I've asked some of the guys because I guess he plays his lead role in Kick-Ass and his MCU appearance as Petro Maximoff? I don't know. I don't remember that in Avengers Age of Ultron. I'm gonna have to go look that up. I've asked some guys around where I work and stuff and they said yes, they could see it. They could definitely see him playing James Bond Bond.

Speaker 1:

So the next one is a guy named Damson Idris. Never heard of him before. To some audiences, damson Idris has been in their lives for almost a decade thanks to snowfall. I don't know what that is. Is that snowfall okay? The 33-year-old British actor played Franklin Saint, a Los Angeles drug dealer who rose to kingpin status during the 1980s. Idris performance garnered universal acclaim, with many critics citing him as one of the two watched in Hollywood. Other than Snowfall, idris' biggest film role came in 2021's Outside the Wire.

Speaker 1:

Never heard of it. The next one is a guy I've never heard of too, and he looks kind of puny. So I don't know how well I'm on. A little bit more stacked, a little bit more built. James bond. This guy looks too thin and that's what these guys are nowadays. They're just too damn thin. Get some muscle on you. Harry lalty never heard of him. L-a-w-t-e-y. So if harry lalty ends up getting the job, all credit goes to Deadline's Justin Kroll for putting out the suggestion. Laughty is the youngest name on the list, at age 28. But by the next time the Bond film comes out he'd meet Broccoli's age Preference, for 2024 was a big year for Laughty, thanks to his roles in Industry and Joker, folly, odoo okay, I don't know, I don't know who.

Speaker 1:

This is. Another name I've never heard of, aaron pierre. If you didn't know about aaron pierre before 2024, chances are you realize his star potential in rebel ridge never watched it, so I don't know and bought all of his stock. The, the 30-year-old Brit, only appeared in three films before this year Old Brother and Foe. Other than that, pierre's noteworthy roles came on television shows like Krypton, the Underground Railroad and Genius. Never heard of them. I've never heard of any of these guys, quite frankly, except the first one. Harris Dickinson is the next one. Harris Dickinson has a leading man presence with a taste of a character actor. After securing main roles in Trust and King's man, dickinson has shifted from blockbuster entertainment to gritty, complex parts Over the past three years. Some of dickens's standout work includes triangle of sadness and reuben, osland, the iron claw and sean durkin and baby girl. Never heard of any of these people, but maybe because they're british, all right.

Speaker 1:

Moving on to the next story, let's go back here, all right? So James Bond 26, what we know so far, again from moviesyahoo. When will the new James Bond be announced? Everything we know about James Bond 26, that's the code name for the movie. The James Bond movie celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2022. Now, in 2024, fans are eagerly anticipating the announcements of the new James Bond and details of the next movie. When was this written? This was written November 7th, so it's a little bit older, but only by a month. Yeah, november. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Okay. So bond 26 is the code name for the 26th film in the james bond movie series has not yet been officially announced, but its release is as inevitable as 007 enjoying his martini shaken and not stirred.

Speaker 1:

Bond's co-owner, mgm, was acquired by Amazon oh, I did not know this. In 2022, and longtime 007 producer Michael Wilson assured fans that the character will return. It's a whole new world, he said in 2022. Oh, I'm afraid of that. We've got to see what happens with Amazon, but there will always be Bond. However, co-producer Barbara Broccoli poured cold water on fans' hopes that it might happen soon, telling the Guardian in October of 2023, about Bond 2026.

Speaker 1:

I think these movies reflect the time they are in, and there's a big, big road ahead reinventing it for the next chapter, and we haven't even begun with that. Well, okay, according to tabloid rumors, british actor Aaron Taylor Johnson is the frontrunner to play 007 in the next movie, but the producers behind the films remain tight-lipped. A new name has been linked to directing the movie, with Blitz filmmaker Sir Steve McQueen reportedly in the frame, according to new tabloid reports. Now, this article goes on, and it's a long one, and it also has other links to oh man, this is a long story. It goes on and on forever. Okay, that, maybe it's just all lumped together with other stuff.

Speaker 1:

All right, next up, we have what was that? It Was that the last of it? Oh, I guess that was it. I thought I saved more. Okay, well, that's all right, that's enough. Don't you think that's enough? That's a lot. We're already 13 minutes in Nothing but James Bond.

Speaker 1:

I love James Bond and I'm thinking about maybe reading the books. I think that would be fun too. Now I don't. Yeah, like I have all these books on my nightstand already that I have not read. I've got the Melania book that I need to read, to read. I haven't read it yet either. I haven't even started it.

Speaker 1:

I'm more of an audio person nowadays because I can sit and listen to it at work and work. So I may do that, we'll see. Surely the James Bond movies are I mean the James Bond books are on audio. Surely it would be fun to listen to. I think. All right, I have to go and oh, we need the question of the day. Hmm, okay, since it's James Bond related, I have several. Which is your favorite actor to play James Bond? That's one, number two, which is your favorite James Bond movie? And I thought I had saved another story about the Bond women. I know I did. I just can't find it now because I wanted to talk about the Bond women too. I know I did, I know I saved it, but oh well, we're out of time now. Who is your favorite Bond girl? So those are your three questions of the day. All right, I gotta go. Thanks for listening and, god willing, I'll be back again tomorrow. Okay, bye.
