An Americanist

Parking Spaces, Presidential Jokes, and J.K. Rowling's Defiance

Carol Marks

TALK TO ME, TEXT IT

A cold-blooded murder without justice stands at the center of today's discussion – a story that should shake every American to their core. Abdul Rahman Waziri, an Afghan refugee who bravely supported U.S. troops in his homeland, was gunned down over a parking space dispute in Houston, Texas. The most shocking element? Despite confessing to the killing, his shooter walks free without charges and lives in the same apartment complex. This unconscionable miscarriage of justice raises profound questions about our legal system and who it really protects.

Moving from this deeply disturbing case, we explore former President Trump's recent comments naming potential successors (JD Vance and Marco Rubio) while finally putting to rest the "third term" speculation that has generated unnecessary controversy. Trump's masterful media manipulation continues to dominate news cycles, even causing some conservative commentators to take bait they should recognize by now.

On the cultural front, JK Rowling demonstrates remarkable courage by doubling down on her stance regarding trans issues, responding to Harry Potter actors who signed a pro-trans letter following a UK Supreme Court ruling. Rowling's scathing essay suggests these actors are motivated by fear rather than conviction – fear of career damage and social ostracism that comes with challenging certain ideological positions.

These stories illuminate our current cultural and political landscape, where justice sometimes fails the deserving, media narratives are skillfully manipulated, and standing for unpopular beliefs requires increasing courage. What story from the past week left you most outraged or concerned? Share your thoughts with us and join the conversation about these critical issues affecting our society.

Speaker 1:

Well, hello, good morning, happy Monday, hello, brand new week. I am feeling great, had a good weekend. Even though we didn't get Grand Cam on Saturday like we normally do, we did get him Friday afternoon after work early evening, took him out for pizza and ice cream before he left the next day to go to Arizona. He's gonna be out there a whole month. He's not going to be back until like the first week of June. What am I going to do? I don't know. It's too long. It's too long.

Speaker 1:

However, I remember it as a child growing up. I would spend like the whole summer away with my grandparents, but I was a little bit older, I think three years old, that long away. I don't know, I don't know. But you know I'm not the parent and I know he's in good hands. So we're going to move on. I'm not worried about him, he's in good hands. I'm just going to miss him, that's all. I'm just being selfish because I love him so much and I want to. I want him all the time. Okay, I have some stories here. I had a great weekend, by the way, I already said that. Okay, here are some stories. I want you to go check out my An Americanist blog. Please, please, comment, and if you're on your phone looking at it, you know the hide viewer option so you can see the comment box. I would appreciate some comments over there. I'm trying to grow that blog. That's where all of my stuff is really going to be, over there at anamericanistcom. Okay, let's see, here we go. And let's start with.

Speaker 1:

President Trump suggests JD Vance or Marco Rubio could succeed him as he gives final answer on a third term. Y'all, he has been playing and trolling everybody. He does this all the time and I love it. He is not running for a third term, come on, he can't for one thing. And so people have just lost their minds over that, even Republicans, even conservatives like y'all. Just stop Stop promoting, stop falling into the trap. Okay, here we go. Stop trying to make something out of nothing for your little platform. Okay, president Trump suggested.

Speaker 1:

I already said that President Trump name-dropped two possible successors Vice President JD Vance, which is typically the normal person who rises out of the ranks, is usually the vice president or Secretary of State. Marco Rubio, but was coy about who he would prefer in a wide-ranging interview that aired on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday. Tell you right now. People most people are probably gonna the upper echelon. Regular politicians the swamp are gonna want Marco Rubio. The people like us and MAGA are gonna want JD Vance, so I have called that. Who will win? I don't know.

Speaker 1:

The commander-in-chief also revealed in a wide-ranging interview with NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday that he's not looking to pursue a third term in office, after previously toying with the idea. He never toyed with the idea. He is just pulling your leg. Y'all have got to get over this. Even I'm talking to you, conservatives and Republicans. Okay, we're moving on to this next story, which is effing outrageous and it just makes me so mad Afghan refugee who worked alongside US troops, killed over a parking spot in Texas. So this guy, this guy, this guy, this Afghan guy, works with our troops over there overseas in his country helping them, okay. And then so he gets to come over here to escape all of that, and then he gets shot over a damn parking spot. And not only that, but the guy who shot him gets to walk free. Is this what we're doing now in America? You can shoot somebody and kill them and you can walk free. Nothing happens, free. Is this what we're doing now in america? You can shoot somebody and kill them and you can walk free. Nothing happens. He fought for freedom and died over a parking spot.

Speaker 1:

The father of two infant daughters and an afghan refugee who supported american special forces in his native country was shot dead in texas last sunday over a dispute over a parking space. Authorities and families said Abdul Rahman Waziri, who fled to the US to escape the Taliban, was killed in the parking lot of his West Houston apartment complex after a neighbor allegedly shot him multiple times at around 9.15,. According to police, he came here to be safe and here when he came, this happened to him. His brother said the alleged killer confessed to the cops that he had shot the other man following an argument over parking, yet the gunman was allowed to walk free without charges after he was questioned by police. Are we living in? What do you mean? He walked fucking free with no charges. What in the hell are we doing here? I'm just without words. You guys need to explain this to me. What has happened? I don't understand this. I don't understand this.

Speaker 1:

The horrifying incident began when wazuri got into an argument with the neighbor over a parking space in the gables at richmond apartment complex. Wazuri had pulled up to check his mail at the complex's mailboxes when the shooter, whose identity has not been released, why the fuck? No, I'm sorry, why not? I'm sorry, I'm sorry for the curse words this early in the morning became in, okay. So the shooter, whose identity, whose identity has not been released became incensed about where rosuri had parked. Witnesses said they saw the suspect vandalizing rosuri's car and then the fight broke out. So this guy is the guy who shot him, is the aggressor. After the fight ended, the shooter allegedly retrieved his gun and fatally shot Missouri several times. After the altercation is already over and Mr Missouri is walking back to his car, the shooter grabs a gun and murders him. He executes him in a cold blood.

Speaker 1:

Police, who are reviewing surveillance footage of the incidents, were called to the scene and discovered the father's body with multiple gunshot wounds lying next to a white Toyota Camry. The 31-year-old husband and father was rushed to the hospital but was unable to be saved. The gunman turned himself over to police and surrendered his gun. He was handcuffed by police, who put handbags on both hands to preserve forensic evidence. After the shooting, as officers were investigating the shooting, they were approached by a male who stated he was the shooter and explained he and the deceased male were arguing over a parking.

Speaker 1:

This article is poorly written. The Harris County District Attorney declined oh my gosh, the Harris County District Attorney declined to charge the shooter. According to Houston police, he was released and is back living in the apartment complex. What? Everybody was afraid that if the murderer is living amongst us, he killed somebody yesterday and he's back here today. They refused to charge him. What in the hell? Somebody explain this to me. I need to know. I'm not going to read the rest of this. That's all I need to know. My goodness, I need to look up this district attorney who has refused to charge this murderer with murder.

Speaker 1:

I don't understand this. What world are we living in? I just can't believe this is real. I cannot believe it's real. All right, I got to move on to the next story. I have no answer. I have no answer. I don't even know what to say. I'm dumbfounded, I'm just, I'm totally dumbfounded. What is wrong with you, texas? I mean, is this like a liberal prosecutor who is just totally ensconced in the equity and inclusion and the social justice? I don't understand. I'm, I'm, I'm. I mean it puts a whole new spin on getting away with murder, because this is what this guy has gotten away with for real literally just gotten away with murder. I'm just, I'm dumbfounded, I'm enraged, I don't even know what to say, but we got to move on to the next story, jk Rowling. I'll try to keep it short.

Speaker 1:

Jk Rowling she is still speaking out even though she's getting backlash for her. She's constantly getting backlash and she has a new project out for Harry Potter. It's a mess, but she's not backing down. Thankfully, jk Rowling has always been an outspoken person and she's a famous name. She didn't have to do this, but she did. Thankfully, she's the only famous person that I know, a woman woman who is speaking out against this trans cult stuff. Now we have kelly j keen, but she's not a well-recognized name like jk rowling is. I always like to credit k kelly j keen as the one who has always been actually doing the real work, but JK Rowling is a famous name and everybody knows her and she is constantly speaking out and she doesn't have to, but she does. Thankfully, she responds to Harry Potter stars signing pro-trans letter with scathing essay and they're motivated by fear she is not backing down.

Speaker 1:

Last week, several harry potter actors, including and I've never heard of these people eddie redmayne, papa ezidu and katie lung signed a I'm sure I butchered all of their stupid names signed a pro-trans open letter for the UK Supreme Court. Or, after the UK Supreme Court ruled that terms woman and sex refer strictly to a biological woman and biological sex. Rowling, who's 59 years old, publicly supported the ruling in an essay shared on X. But in light of recent open letters from academia and the arts criticizing the UK Supreme Court ruling on sex-based rights, it's possibly worth remembering that nobody sane believes, or has ever believed, that humans can change sex or that binary sex isn't a material fact. The author wrote fact. The author wrote these letters do nothing but remind us of what we know only too well that pretending to believe these things became an elitist badge of virtue, Rowling added.

Speaker 1:

She continued some argue that signatories of these sorts of letters are motivated by fear. Fear of their careers, of course, but also fear of their co-religionists, who include angry, narcissistic men who threaten and sometimes enact violence on non-believers, backstabbing colleagues over ready-to-report wrong-think, the online shamers and doctors and rape threateners and, of course, the influential zealots in the upper echelons of liberal professions. Well, she nailed every single one of them, didn't she Later in her essay, rowling wrote that court losses are starting to stack up against the trans community and women are fighting back and winning significant victories. To conclude her message, rowling again called out the people who signed the pro open letter, though she didn't name names. And then it goes on to talk about all of the actors and what they've done and what they've said, and blah, blah, blah. But good for her, she's not backing down.

Speaker 1:

All right, we need to get to the question of the day. Oh, my gosh, I went over 10 minutes because of this, because of that story, that guy that shot another man and was not charged. Okay, I'm still. I still can't believe. I hope mainstream media picks this up, because, my goodness, all right. Question of the day. Okay, here's a question of the day. What do you think the most outrageous story was last week? Was it the people losing their mind over the Donald Trump and Pope attire, or what was it? What do you think the most, since? I'm talking about this outrageous person who's not being charged with murder, not being charged with anything. He shot and killed a man on purpose and they're not charging him. That is outrageous. What is your most outrageous story this past week? Okay, I gotta go. Thanks for listening. Love y'all. Bye.
