When Even $15 Billion Can't Buy Fidelity: Stories of Our Time

Carol Marks

TALK TO ME, TEXT IT

Ever feel like you're shouting into the void? That's where I find myself after 866 episodes, questioning whether sharing news stories serves any real purpose or just adds to the endless noise. Today I'm sharing a personal milestone decision—I'll be ending this podcast after reaching 1,000 episodes, giving us exactly 134 more days together before I sign off permanently.

The stories I covered today perfectly illustrate why I'm wrestling with content creator fatigue. A man lost his life in a horrific MRI accident because he wore a 20-pound chain necklace with a padlock into the exam room during his wife's appointment. Despite previous conversations with technicians about this unusual "workout accessory," the powerful magnet pulled him in with tragic consequences. Meanwhile, New York has awarded over $600 million in taxpayer dollars to sanctuary groups actively working to undermine federal immigration laws. The Bronx Defenders alone received more than $500 million in city contracts since 2018. And in a story that proves money can't buy fidelity, an HR executive married into the Cabot family (worth an estimated $15.4 billion) was caught cheating in a very public scandal—despite only being divorced from her previous marriage in 2022.

Amid these troubling headlines, I asked listeners a simple yet profound question: What instantly makes your day better? For me, it's looking at pictures of my grandson when I can't be with him in person. While prayer certainly ranks high, and disconnecting from social media offers mental relief, those family connections provide the most reliable source of joy. Perhaps that's the lesson we need most—in a world overflowing with concerning news, our simplest connections matter most. What brings you instant joy? Share your thoughts and join me for these final 134 episodes as we navigate this noisy world together.

Speaker 1:

Hello, good morning. Yes, I know I didn't have an episode on Friday and the Gent and I did not put out a Brute Awakening podcast yesterday. We were in Tunica all weekend. We left Thursday evening to go over to head out to go to Tunica and then Sunday we got up extra extra early to come home. That's why we did not have an episode. But and I think I am for this podcast here at the Americanist Daily Briefing, whatever it's called, I don't even know what I'm calling it anymore I have 134 more episodes to go before I hit 1,000 episodes and I and so that's 134 more days. So I think when that happens I'm calling it quits. That'll be it for this podcast. Now, it'll take a while before we get there. So I'm going through those highs and lows again where I want to quit the podcast, but I'm going to soldier on until 134 more days and then that's it, I'm done. I'm done with the podcast.

Speaker 1:

This morning I was driving in um like for one thing, trying to find stories, and some of it is just so damn depressing and I'm tired of talking about it, you know. And then I think also think well, what purpose am I serving anybody by just repeating these stories. I mean, is it serving any purpose? Is it purpose, or am I just contributing to putting out more noise out there? But speaking of the noise, let's get on with the show, alright? So I have a couple of things that I put out there on the X-File.

Speaker 1:

Let's go over and see which one do I want to start with first, we're going to save this one for last. This one's pretty juicy. Well, I say juicy, who knows, let's see. Well, what do I start with? Okay, long island man killed in freak mri accident was wearing a 20 pound chain necklace with a padlock. What in the world? Okay, I read this story sometime last week and you know they said he had a gold chain on. I'm thinking, just a regular necklace. And I'm thinking how in the world did this guy get pulled into an MRI machine with a chain on his neck? Now, he wasn't the patient he was. He went into the room illegally. The first article that I read last week said he entered the room when he shouldn't have. And so here we go with this. This is the latest story. This is what happened.

Speaker 1:

The Long Island man who was killed in a freak MRI machine accident was sporting a staggering 20-pound chain necklace adorned with a padlock. At the time of the tragedy, his grieving wife said Keith McAllister, 61, died after suffering several heart attacks following the bizarre incident in Nassau Open MRI in Westbury last Wednesday. See, she was the patient. At this time. His wife, adrienne Jones McAllister, was undergoing a routine knee scan in the MRI machine. She said that McAllister would typically enter the exam room to help her get back on her feet near the end of her appointments and never had an issue before the deadly incident. My gosh, this is horrible.

Speaker 1:

Mcallister had taken to wearing the hulking 20 pound necklace as part of his weight training. Jones McAllister explained to news 12 Long Island look, I get that, but sort of, but not really I don't get it. But if you're gonna don't wear the 20 pound damn chain necklace into something like this, you dumbass. They'd even discussed his training and the hard-to-miss chain with the MRI technician during their previous appointments. Jones McAllister said Well, I hope. The technician said don't wear that in here. That was not the first time that guy has seen that chain on her husband's. She said they had a conversation about it before. So what? What is she trying to blame the technician for not warning him when McAllister entered the exam room with the technician, the machine suddenly switched him around and pulled him in. Jones McAllister said Jones McAllister, and the technician tried in vain to pry Mc callister off of the machine while she pleaded all the while for someone to turn it off. I don't know what it takes to turn off the damn machine. Oh, I was saying turn off the machine, call 911, okay. And then, all of a sudden, the article just ends okay, whatever, wow, well, you know, don't wear something like that into your medical treatments. Okay, let that be a warning.

Speaker 1:

Next up, new york awarded this. If you're wondering why shit is happening in these cities, this is why new york awarded more than $600 million to sanctuary groups helping defy Trump federal immigration law. You can go finish reading that. I'll read a couple of sentences. This is outrageous. So this is why. If you want to know, this is why it's happening.

Speaker 1:

Legal and migrant advocacy groups fighting to block New York from helping the Trump administration enforce US immigration laws have been awarded more than $600 million in taxpayer dollars from the city and state governments. A post-review of contracts revealed the Bronx Defenders alone has received more than $500 million in city contracts since fiscal year 2018 to provide a host of legal services to poor criminal and civil defendants. Well, why? How are they getting this money? Do you have to apply for it? Who is giving it to them? I guess a bunch of Democrats. I would be pissed off. Citizen in New York right now. And the legal aid group raked in another $32 million from the state over the years. Records kept by the state comptroller's office show Other groups were also funneled big bucks as they worked to undermine federal immigration policy, including Make the Road New York, which received $56 million to provide.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so these groups are just getting money handed to them to help fight this. This is outrageous. And you know what? Nothing's going to happen, just like with this Tulsi Gabbard thing and exposing the Obama administration. Nothing will result of this. I'm telling you right now. Result of this. I'm telling you right now and that alone should terrify every single American that nothing is going to become of that Tulsi Gabbard exposing all of that, of what Obama did. No one is going to be held accountable. That should terrify every single person.

Speaker 1:

All right, so you want to read about the HR exec in the Coldplay cheating scandal. She married into one of the oldest, wealthiest families in Boston and yet she couldn't stay dedicated to her marriage. Man, I tell you what this is crazy. The HR executive at the center of the You're Wait until you hear some of this. This is asinine. The HR executive at the center of a viral infidelity scandal married into one of the oldest and wealthiest families in Boston, yet she couldn't keep her hands to herself.

Speaker 1:

Kristen Cabot, who is on leave from her job at Astronomer following the embarrassing caught-on Jumbotron incident last week, appears to be married to privateer rum owner Andrew Cabot, according to social media posts. Now, again according to social media. So you know, it must be true, right? The allegedly jilted husband, touts his family lineage, is the sixth generation owner of the long-standing rum brand founded by the original andrew cabot. The cabot fortune has transcended generations and was estimated at 200 million dollars in 1972. New york times profile of the family. That's 15.4 billion in 2025.

Speaker 1:

It's not clear when kristin and andrew got married. Okay, let's do the math here. I'm going to read it Okay, it's not clear when Kristen and Andrew got married, but it's at least the second marriage for both. So she's on her second marriage and she's already cheating on the second marriage because her previous divorce was finalized in 2022. So she got divorced in 2022. Who knows when she got married again. It's only been three years, because this is 2025 and already she's cheating again. Goodness gracious, kristin kabbits, now deleted linkedin account, showed that she had has served in an advisory board member at Privateer Rum since 2020.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm, so she? Okay. Oh, I can't, I can't. You can go finish reading that if you're like we need to go on to the question of the day. Okay, here's the question of the day. What is one thing that can make your day instantly better? Mine is. I'm just going to tell you, it's looking at pictures of my grandson. If I can't be with him, then it's just looking at pictures and videos of my grandson. Now, I know my answer should have been prayer. I know that and it probably it ranks up there. Of course it does. Of course it does, but probably also shutting down social media, getting offline, um, but basically, if I see any kind of pictures or videos of my grandson, if I can't be with them, that will instantly make my day better. All right, I gotta go. Thanks for listening. Love y'all, bye.
